There are two parts to any criminal sentence for any crime involving sex. There’s the standard sentence: prison time or probation. As soon as the first sentence ends, the second one begins.
After getting released from prison, an ex-offender has to sign up for his state’s sex offender registry. If he moves to another state, he’ll have to sign up there too. Good article overall, but completely ignores the difference between the criminal and civil legal systems. Would bolster the arguments made to mention that the whole legal basis of the registration system is based on civil law which by design / precedent leaves punishment in the domain of the criminal legal system.

This article states that the Adam Walsh Act of 2006 was for a little boy named Adam Walsh who was raped and killed by and adult. Adam Walsh was murdered by a man named Otis Toole who admitted he abducted and murdered Adam but did not sexually abuse him. He was given multiple polygraph tests and passed every one
